2017 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards

The 2017 Golden PineCone Sustainability Awards were hosted by greenUP! and GREENevada and took place on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada.

The theme for the event was “On the Road to Sustainability” and folks we asked to dress appropriately for a drive down memory lane.

Recognition was given in ten (10) categories:
Educational Program – Classrooms Unleashed by Sierra Nevada Journeys
Educator – Linda Conlin, Former Director, Current Board Member – River Wranglers
Individual / Volunteer – Mark Korinek, Director of Operations – Carson City School District
Public Figure / Servant – Hillary Schieve, Mayor – City of Reno
Youth Leadership – Eric Duong – UNR Student
Nonprofit Organization – Walker Basin Conservancy
Federal /State Agency – Regional Transportation Commission (RTC)
Small Business – Environmental Management and Planning Solutions, Inc. (EMPSi)
Medium to Large Business – Otis Bay Ecological Consultants
Sustainability Milestones – Washoe County School District’s Sustainability Policy

Thanks goes to the 2017 sponsors for helping to fund this important community recognition event. Support was provided by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), NV Energy, Reno Printing, greenUP!, Tesla, Jo Simpson and Boondoggle band. There were eight (8) exhibitor tables including Desert Research Institute, Envirolution, the Great Basin Outdoor School, Nevada Green Institute Nevada Department of Environmental Protection, One Nevada River Plan, RTC Smart Trips, and the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation.
