greenUP!, received a $12,898 grant from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management for their 2020 Recycling Grant Program. The grant is designed to increase recycling, public awareness of the importance of conserving natural resources, and encourage the reduction, reuse and recycling of solid waste in Nevada. greenUP! is using the proceeds to continue the Carson Street Green Dining District pilot that was funded by NDEP in 2019.
To celebrate, greenUP! promoted the green dining district by flying a banner that spanned Carson Street in the heart of the green dining district between W. Spear and Telegraph Streets from January 20 to February 2. For the first week of the promotion, Green Dining District Restaurants honored a $1 discount for those that bring their Nevada Day stainless steel commemorative mugs towards either a 16-oz beverage or towards the cost of a meal. On the second week of the promo, individual restaurants were featured on the Green Dining District social media pages and offered a signature drink or special menu item celebrating sustainability.
greenUP! plans to offer similar promos and discounts every time the green dining district banner is placed. We expect to place the banner next on August 31 through September 6 and then again December 21st through December 27th of 2020. Look for details about the banner promotion, on the greenUP! website or check the greenUP! Facebook page.
